5 Must-Visit Places in Eastern Asturias

Its delicious gastronomy, imposing mountains, spectacular beaches, and lush forests are some of the reasons that make Asturias a unique place. Indeed, when they say this land is a paradise, it’s for good reason.

If you’re thinking of visiting this small earthly paradise but still don’t know what to see in Asturias, take note! We’ve selected some places in Eastern Asturias that you can’t miss.

Bufones de Pría

One of the most spectacular natural phenomena that the earth offers us are the bufones, a spectacle that occurs when seawater forcefully enters the natural chimneys it has created over the years, producing an overwhelming sound while shaking the ground beneath your feet.

The most famous ones in our land are located a few kilometers from Llames de Pría, and the best time to see them is during the autumn and winter months when the sea is more agitated.

If you’re left wanting to experience the Asturian coast from another perspective, we’ll reveal spectacular sea caves and imposing cliffs with our guided jet ski tours. 😉

It’s not the first time we’ve recommended them, and that’s for a reason. Visit them during high tide and enjoy a phenomenon that will leave you speechless!

Cuevas del Agua

15 minutes from Ribadesella, there’s a small village called Cuevas del Agua whose great peculiarity is that its only vehicle access is through a spectacular natural cave 300 meters long.

Unique in the world, the Cuevona de Cueves allows you to appreciate different formations such as stalactites and stalagmites while the murmur of the stream that runs through the entire cave accompanies you during the journey.

Dare to traverse it by car or on foot! Once you cross it, you can walk through a beautiful Asturian village on the banks of the Sella River.

Mirador del Fito

On the slope of Sueve, you’ll have the opportunity to contemplate the beauty of the Asturian landscape in all its splendor. The Mirador del Fito, an ancient watchtower, allows you to take in the imposing Asturian mountains alongside the beauty of the Cantabrian Sea and its coast in one glance.

It’s reached via the AS-260 road, which connects Arriondas and Colunga. After a few curves and a few stairs, you can contemplate a panorama that will take your breath away. Just make sure you go on a clear day!

Sunday Market of Cangas de Onís

For lovers of Asturian gastronomy, the Sunday Market of Cangas de Onís, one of the most important in the Picos de Europa region, is a must-visit.

Local producers gather in the Church Square to exhibit typical Asturian products: cheeses, cured meats, fabes and honey, among others. The wide gastronomic offer is joined by a variety of basketry and hardware products, thus completing an enormous range of products under the umbrella of a typical Asturian atmosphere.

La Olla de San Vicente

Near the town of Tornín, five kilometers from Cangas de Onís, begins one of the most beautiful routes to be enjoyed in Eastern Asturias.

La Olla de San Vicente is a beautiful natural pool that is reached by skirting the course of the Dobra River, a river with crystal clear waters where it’s impossible to resist a dip in the summer season. Due to its low difficulty, it’s ideal for both adults and children to enjoy a day in the heart of nature.
