To know Asturias is to discover the secrets it holds within. The Olla de San Vicente is one of them, a magical place that can be accessed after a pleasant walk along the banks of the Dobra River, whose surroundings allow you to enjoy the landscape in all its splendor.
Discover with Cangas Aventura one of the most charming places in Eastern Asturias. A place where the Dobra River, a tributary of the Sella and natural boundary of the western part of the Picos de Europa, offers us a short route of low difficulty and easy access from Cangas de Onís, but no less beautiful for it.
Easy Access, Easy Enjoyment
Located in the municipality of Cangas de Onís, the Olla de San Vicente is a natural pool of crystal-clear waters fed by the Dobra River. A beautiful and easily accessible place that captivates from the first moment.
The low elevation, short distance (about 6 kilometers in total), and beautiful surroundings make this pleasant journey a route where both adults and children will enjoy the landscape that the banks of the Dobra River offer until reaching the pool.
The starting point is located a few kilometers from Cangas de Onís. To get there, you need to take the road leading to Puerto del Pontón and, between the towns of Tornín and Miyares, before crossing the bridge over the Dobra River, there is a restaurant that marks the beginning of the path. Keep in mind that in summer, the pool has a large influx of people and parking can become tedious, but… it’s worth it!
A Route Suitable for All Audiences
The route to the Olla is a linear path, which is easy to follow, and although shortly after starting the walk you will come across a bridge that crosses the river, the path to the pool continues straight ahead.
The first part of the route runs along a wide track that poses no difficulty until the path reaches the banks of the Dobra River. At this point, the path becomes more interesting and, although in certain sections you need to be careful, the route has no complications at all.
The outward journey takes less than an hour. There is more than enough time to make stops, to enjoy the greenery of the Asturian landscape, the impressive color of the water, and, of course, the pure air that surrounds the environment since there are no human settlements in the area. And that is reflected in the atmosphere.
As you progress along the route, the Dobra River will tempt visitors with calm pools of transparent water that perfectly complement small rapids of lively waters.
The route exudes beauty from every corner, but even so, reaching the final destination manages to surprise. After a short walk, there is no better reward than contemplating the Olla de San Vicente, a huge natural pool of crystal-clear waters surrounded by vegetation where, depending on the season, the bravest will enjoy taking a dip. For the rest, enjoying the views, the landscape, and the surroundings is more than enough to relax body and mind and return with renewed energy.
