The Asturian environment is determined to gift us unforgettable scenes… and how unforgettable they are!
This time, nature’s whim manifests itself in the form of a rock needle (or ‘ahuja’): the Fusu la Muyer. It rises imposingly in the valleys of the municipality of Ponga, and from which one can observe a window to the majesty of the wildest Asturian nature with San Juan de Beleño, the Cornión massif, and the Picos de Europa as a backdrop.
The story goes that ‘fusu’ comes from ‘huso’ (spindle), which has been metaphorically applied to the terrain, as it bears a similarity in shape to a textile spinning spindle. Those already initiated in climbing will be able to greatly enjoy ascending the Fusu (always with the appropriate safety measures). And adventurers who prefer more grounded experiences such as hiking or trekking, will be able to enjoy the beautiful scene that this geological formation offers against a purely Asturian landscape. We’ll tell you more details below.
Climbing El Fusu La Muyer
As we mentioned previously, this small vertical needle is optimal only for experienced climbers because, as we know, the mountain demands a lot of respect. It is advisable that only people with prior knowledge of the techniques, as well as rock climbing experience, should climb. Proper climbing and safety equipment is necessary for this.
Although its height is around 20 meters and the most used route is about 25 meters, these are more than enough for the climb to be enormously enjoyable thanks to the wild views that can be seen on its ascending journey.

Trekking and Hiking to Reach El Fusu La Muyer
One of the most classic routes to reach and see this slender rock needle, and obviously enjoy everything the environment has to offer, is the circular route of Tiatordos, which begins in the Casín village of Pendones.
Along an elevation gain of more than 1,200 meters, among its lush and colorful beech forests rises this majestic peak as the ‘Perfect Mountain‘ amidst the rugged forest mass of the Ponga and Redes Natural Parks. The physical demand required is well known among those who have already traveled it, but any effort is worth it once you reach the summit that has so much to offer to those who conquer it.
The majestic beauty of the Asturian landscape takes precise forms in this wild geography. Adventure has its own name: Asturias.
